Why I use HostGator for Web Hosting
Dec 07, 2010 | 3 Comments »
I’ll warn you ahead of time, this article is all praise for HostGator and their web hosting. They run a great company and have made my life so much easier. There are other great web host companies out there, but this post is strictly a review of HostGator.
HostGator’s support system
Specifically their chat support system. Whenever I have an issue or a question, I know that I am going to get a hold of somebody that can help me almost instantly. If there is a wait, they tell me how many people are in front of me. I don’t think that I have ever had to wait more than 5 minutes.
When I chat with a technician they are always friendly. When I say always, I mean always. I have abused them numerous times, and no matter how much of a pain I am, it still feels like they enjoy helping me.
I have never really had to use their phone support since their chat support is so convenient, but I’m sure that their chat support system is just as good.
HostGator communicates with their customers
They have a regularly updated blog, which is written in a conversational tone and is filled with mostly entertaining and comical posts.
HostGator is active in social media, and they regularly use their Twitter account to communicate with their customers. If there are ever any issues with their servers, which is expected with all servers once in a while, I usually know about it on Twitter before I notice it on my website.
HostGator has saved me time
For some reason a lot of the other hosting companies make the simplest things difficult. I recently worked with another major hosting provider for a client; things that were so easy to do on HostGator required me to go back and forth with the other provider’s terribly slow support system for days.
HostGator keeps up to date with technology
They use latest technology for their servers, which makes everything run smoothly. I never have had an issue come up where there was something that I couldn’t do with their servers.
When a server inevitably has some down time, it is usually very minimal and only for a few minutes.
Conclusion
I would highly recommend HostGator and their services. They are always helpful and reliable. Check out their hosting plans here.

Not a bad post. I’ll probably be doing something similar for 1&1 soon.

Thanks Mitch,
I’ve worked with 1&1 as well and I liked them. I’m curious of your opinions on some of the other big guys.

Well, the problem is that once we usually find our hosting company, we’ll stick with them unless they get on our nerves. My clients have either had me put them wherever I felt comfortable or have been on small hosts that were problematic for whatever reason. I’ve never had a client on Blue Host, for instance, so I can’t comment on them.
